Abstract:

The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) is the national metrology institute of Germany and one of the top authorities for all matters of correct and reliable measurement. The PTB working group "Metrology for Magnetic Nanoparticles" aims to support the development of novel diagnostic and therapeutic applications of magnetic nanoparticles (MNP). This is accomplished by constantly advancing magnetic measuring technology for characterization, quantification, imaging and standardization of MNP. In this lecture, the most important research activities of PTB in this course of action are illuminated and future perspectives on MNP based biomedical applications are highlighted. Particular attention is paid to the change in metrological requirements as a reaction to diversifications in the application fields of magnetic nanoparticles over time.
